How to clear corrupted NFC files on your Android smartphone

This article is for all users who cannot use the Readers due to corrupted NFC files on their Android smartphone

About the issue

You may encounter an issue where your Android smartphone will not respond to any readers in the building despite your Welcome profile being active and your access groups assigned correctly.

The reason is because when your phone runs apps, it stores temporary data to help things run faster — but sometimes that data becomes outdated or corrupted and gets in the way. Clearing the cache removes that stored data so the app can start fresh, which can fix issues caused by old or conflicting information without affecting any of your settings or personal data.

Before applying this fix

It would be useful to attempt the following methods before applying this fix:

  • Ask fellow Android users with similar access groups to attempt their Android smartphone on a reader that you're struggling to use

  • Ask your Company Administrator if you have the correct access groups assigned to your user profile

  • Ask the Operations Team if the reader is active in the building as it may have been missed by the Reader provider in the building

Clear the NFC cache

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Go to Apps

  3. Tap the Filter icon and toggle Show system apps to active

  4. Tap the Search icon and type NFC (this may show both NFC and NFC services)

  5. Tap on one or both of these NFC options and tap Storage

  6. Clear data and cache for one or both

  7. Restart your device and attempt again with a reader
