Welcome Workdays supports digital access cards via NFC on iPhone and Android phones. This provides fast, stable, and secure access compared to Bluetooth-based solutions. The cards are encrypted and stored securely in Apple Wallet or on your Android device.
Important: Digital access cards work alongside plastic cards. Employees can choose to use either mobile, plastic card, or both. We still recommend that everyone moves toward a plastic-free future!
For company administrators
When digital access cards are enabled, you typically don't need to do anything manually.
New employees automatically receive an email with instructions on how to download the app and add their digital card to Apple Wallet or their Android phone.
If an employee needs the instructions again, you can resend them via Actions → Send digital access card by email.
Here is the email employees receive when they are assigned a digital card:
For employees
Open the welcome email and download the Welcome Access app from:
Log in with the same email address you use in Welcome Workdays.
Tap "Generate access card" in the app and follow the instructions to add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
If you haven't set a PIN code in Welcome Workdays before, you will be asked to create one. This is used on card readers with two-factor authentication (e.g. outside normal working hours).
You can continue to use a plastic card in parallel if you wish.
Security
Digital cards use the phone's NFC chip for contactless access.
Card data is encrypted and stored in a secure chip on the device.
Apple Wallet uses the same technology as bank and payment cards, making it as secure as paying by card via Apple Pay.
Apple Wallet supports Express Mode, which means you can open the door without unlocking your phone.
When the battery is dead, Apple Wallet cards work for up to 5-10 hours, even after the phone runs out of power.
If you lose your phone, the card can be blocked via Find My iPhone / Find My Device.
For building administrators
To enable digital access cards for a tenant in the building:
Go to Building Settings → Companies → Welcome Access.
Check that the company is integrated with the access control system and that access groups are configured.
Turn on Digital access card.
We recommend enabling Automatic synchronization, so new users automatically receive a digital card when they are invited. Everyone will then receive an invitation email with information on how to start using their digital card.
Need a physical plastic card?
Digital access cards cover most needs, but some users also need a physical plastic card. Both work in parallel.

Granting access to external people
Consultants, representatives, temporary workers, and other external people can also receive digital access cards. Add the person as a user in your company, and they will receive instructions for downloading the app and generating their card.
