What is Welcome Access?
Welcome Access lets employees use their phone as an access card instead of — or alongside — a plastic card. The card is stored in Apple Wallet (iPhone) or Google Wallet (Android) and uses the phone's built-in NFC chip for contactless communication with the door reader.
The NFC chip is usually located near the top of the phone and communicates with the sensor in the centre of the reader. On iPhone, you don't need to unlock the phone — the card works automatically. On Android, the Welcome Access app must be active in the background. Card data is encrypted and stored in a secure chip on the device, the same technology used for payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Please see Om Welcome Workdays for more information.
What happens when your company is activated?
When digital access cards are activated for your company, all users automatically receive a welcome email with instructions. The user downloads the Welcome Access app, signs in with their email address, and taps "Generate access card" to add the card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. During setup, the user is asked to create a PIN code, which is used as two-factor authentication on readers outside normal working hours. New employees invited to your company automatically receive instructions for their digital card — no manual action is needed from you.

How to use the digital card
Hold the top back of the phone against the centre of the reader.
On iPhone, the NFC chip is near the top of the phone, and you don't need to unlock the phone or open the Wallet app.
On Android, the NFC chip location varies by model, and the phone typically needs to be unlocked or have the Welcome Access app open.
The phone must be held close to the reader for the card to register.

The Transition Phrase
If the building is still in a transition phase where card readers are being upgraded, we recommend keeping the plastic card as a backup. Digital and physical cards work in parallel, so employees can use both. As more readers are upgraded to support NFC,
the digital card will work on an increasing number of doors. Contact your building administrator for information about reader status in your building.
